In Memoriam 1959-2021
Brett was a Co-Founder of Freestate Advisors. He began his career in financial consulting where he led the business valuation and capital markets group for Ernst & Young. He subsequently directed international expansion and acquisition for a U.S. manufacturing company and developed advanced financial decision support systems for a Fortune 500 transportation company. Prior to the founding of Freestate Advisors, Brett held numerous finance executive positions at Sprint. His experience included responsibility for financial planning and analysis, development of advanced financial analysis systems, and operational finance support for this $40 billion organization. During his tenure at Sprint, he began his investment research collaboration with Tom Halvorson, and they co-founded Freestate Advisors in 2008. He received an MBA in Finance from the University of Kansas School of Business and held a Series 65 Investment Advisor securities registration.
Brett passed away peacefully on July 18, 2021, surrounded by his family after a year-long battle with cancer. He made a huge impact on the company’s investment management philosophy and left us with many wonderful memories. He will be sorely missed.
